The role of the CFO is changing, and with it, the dynamics at the top of organizations. While the CEO traditionally acts as a visionary, decision-maker, and external representative, the CFO has long been seen as a counterweight: rational, cautious, and controlling.
But this tension is no longer sufficient. In a complex world, effectiveness no longer arises from opposition, but from complementary leadership systems. The CFO with a systems-oriented mindset doesn't expand the CEO's role by limiting it, but by connecting, grounding, and operationalizing it.
